The Furniture Makers Company

On Tuesday 22nd April, Sitting Firm's MD Dave Green was privileged to be made a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers.
Fundamental to the WCFM is having one foot firmly in the past – ensuring Britain’s heritage of excellence in cabinet making and furniture design is upheld, with the other foot placed firmly in the future, enabling tomorrow’s furniture designers to innovate and find inspiration.
The inauguration was just that.

The Furniture Makers’ Company is the British furnishing industry’s charity. It provides help to those in need, supports and educates the next generation of designers and makers, and champions excellence for the industry.

The Company is one of the Livery Companies of the City of London. The organisation was formed in 1951 and granted City Livery status in 1963. In 2013 it received a Royal Charter. Its Guild Mark scheme – the modern equivalent of the trading standards once regulated by the medieval guilds – gives accreditation to designers, craftsmen and manufacturers exhibiting the highest standards of British furniture production.
