Founder David Green has a passion for working with wood, putting a piece of himself into every project he works on in the purpose-built workshops in the leafy Warwickshire countryside.
Still very much a family affair, David runs Sitting Firm with wife Stephanie, with both enjoying dealing directly with the customers. Along with Mark, Kirsty, Janine and Keith, David and Stephanie give that personal touch so often missing in the hustle of the modern day.
The journey to becoming the “best kept secret in English furniture” began when qualified cabinet-maker David first formed the company in 1989 with his business partner, setting up a workshop in Balsall Common, near Birmingham.
At first, Sitting Firm made just Windsor chairs, a typically English product from a typically English business, always made out of ash and with a solid seat. But demand for services soon grew, as did the product range and staff roster.
Ten years ago, Sitting Firm moved to the current base just outside Coventry. The new facility and purpose-built workshops has given us room to quietly grow and establish a reputation as a preferred supplier of hardwood furniture to high street retailers like John Lewis.
Sustainably sourced, seasoned ash, elm, oak and other hardwood is delivered and everything else is completed on site, from steam bending to the turning of components, hand crafting and final polish.
Through every piece made there is the reassuring feel of quality and the solid craftsmanship of old.
The nature of this approach allows Sitting Firm to tailor its designs to the specific needs of the customer, offering bespoke solutions, with the whole ethos based around quality and looking after people.
